Bart Lodewijks

Twenty years ago, Bart Lodewijks started a chalk drawing that goes around the world, from Calcutta to Glasgow, from Seoul to Kathmandu and now, finally, in Bruges. On the street, on walls, on cliffs, on façades and sometimes even indoors.

The drawings of Bart Lodewijks connect places and people. In publications, public appearances and guided tours he talks about how the drawings make a connection with locals. He talks about the interaction, the kindness and the trust, but also about the suspicion and resistance his chalk drawings evoke. The stories uncover what would have been invisible without the chalk drawings and thus he creates a narrative analysis of the places he visits and marks.
