Angel Bat Dawid
Clarinet player and composer Angel Bat Dawid is one of the youngest descendants of the controversial International Anthem label. The label heralds from the contemporary scene in Chicago, and once again puts the city on the international map as one of the interesting hotbeds of creative jazz, with both strong roots in tradition and an open mind for the future. Angel Bat Dawid is also largely inspired by cult heroes from her own city such as Art Ensemble of Chicago and Sun Ra, and translates those influences, in a militant way, into today. Pitchfork described her debut album The Oracle as follows: "The debut from the Chicago-based composer and clarinetist serves as a vibrant, spiritual, free-jazz document or black life as it stands today."
Indian-born and raised percussion player and producer Sarathy Korwar, combines his musical background as a classical Indian tabla player with his love for jazz and electronic music. His debut album Day to Day was released in 2016 on the legendary label Ninja Tune. Shortly afterwards he created the UPAJ Collective, with which he released the wonderful and contemplative live album My East Is Your West last year. For his latest album More Arriving, he joins forces with a few rappers from Mumbai. Music at the crossroads between two opposite points of the compass.
During AMOK the Dutch band Yīn Yīn will bring groovy Thaichedelic funk! These gentlemen mix Asian folkore, foggy discofunk and seventies psychrock to a crazy deranged cocktail. After playing at festivals such as Eurosonic, Lowlands and Le Guess Who, we are happy they bring their clamour to AMOK.
