The British Kaffe Matthews is an international reference when it comes to sound art. Especially for this first edition of AMOK, KAAP has invited her to Bruges and to create a very special project: Sonic Bikes, a mobile composition you can only play when cycling.

Come and take a free bike at the AMOK pop-up to discover the city and its stories in a unique way.

The city is the playing field of Kaffe Matthews, city noises are her instrumentarium. During tours in the city she records all sorts of sounds, from voices to the clip clopping of horses, from chants to everyday sounds.

She combines the recordings with elements of the past into an unheard city opera, that you can discover - by bike. You lend a GPS guided audio bike and make little tour around the city, that will evoke hidden sounds through your speakers. That way you unchain the soundtrack of the city, which will also be heard by random spectators. For Sonic Bikes Kaffe Matthews resided in Bruges for 4 weeks.

A bike tour takes about 30 minutes.
