Zonzo Compagnie is an international trendsetter when it comes to music projects for a young audience. It does so by creating performances that take music as a special principle. They enchant the (young) audience with intriguing portraits of composers (John Cage, Miles Davis, J.S. Bach, Thelonious Monk, ...), they surprise with wonderful sound installations and touch the heart with beautiful songs.

De Beren Gieren will perform this version of Thelonious.

A rollercoaster through the live of Thelonious Monk

Zonzo Compagnie toured the world with family show Mile(s)stones, a journey through the universe of Miles Davis. With Thelonious, the company now concocted a sequel, this time around the music and figure of another legendary jazz musician, Thelonious Monk. This performance was created in De Groenplaats (KAAP) and during AMOK it will also be performed there.

A drummer, a pianist and a bass player take you to New York in the first half of the 20th century for a rollercoaster of encounters, jam sessions, successes and a dose of bad luck. As The equally stubborn as the genius himself, Thelonious Monk follows a whimsical course, while making equally whimsical magical music full of surprising harmonies and adventurous rhythms. Live music and video mapping immerse you in Thelonious’ experimental drive and always show you new sides of this fascinating musician. With live music from Fulco Ottervanger, Simon Segers and Lieven Van Pée from jazz trio De Beren Gieren.
